Can a bingo game be unfair?
This is an article written by John Walker regarding the opportunity for bingo operators to influence a game by producing heavily weighted cards. Online bingo operators though usually are lisenced from the top network operators whom in tern use quite sophisticated random number generators (RNG).
The game of bingo is played with numbers being selected whether it is UK 90 number versions or US 75 number version bingo game. Player wins the game only when numbers which are in the players ticket or bingo card, matches with the numbers called by the caller or the random number generator in case of online bingo. A fair game is one in which all players have the same chance of winning as every other player’s cards and tickets. The number selection process must be totally random.
The free bingo game is fair if all balls have equal weight so that each ball has same probability of being selected as every other ball. The selection of each number should be independent random event. No balls can be lighter than the other balls or the lighter balls would come up more frequently. If the lighter balls come up more frequently then they have a greater probability of being called than the heavier balls. The game is no longer a fair game. It is possible that an unfair operator could have tickets or cards printed that contain the heavy balled numbers, but it wouldn’t make sense to do since every bingo game has a winner and the operator would still have to payout the winnings. In this case the chance favors the one’s whose cards contain the numbers of the lighter balls. Since the numbers will no be generated randomly this bingo game will not be fair to the players. Similarly in online bingo if the caller software is defective or preprogrammed in favor of some numbers then the game will not be fair.
