Is Internet Bingo an addictive form of gambling?

Is Bingo a form of gambling? Is it harmful like other types of gambling or is it just harmless fun? This was a question put by visitors to Yahoo Answers which read "I went to my local today and, for the first time in my life, played a game of bingo. It cost me £1.50. I didn't win anything, so I went home. I would like to continue playing, perhaps once a month. Has anyone out there had a negative experience with Bingo, where you've got drawn in and become addicted etc. Please share your experiences. I would like to hear people's opinions on this before I play again".

The best answer was as follows:

Yes it can be as addictive as any other form of gambling. It can also be harmless fun, just like any other form of gambling. I have a relative who was, and probably still is, addicted. Yet plenty of people have done as you are talking about and just go play once in awhile and have a good time. Here is the thing to ask yourself. Do you really plan to only play once a month? Can you afford it, no spending money for rent or food, and just use spare money? If you can do that then yeah you would be fine".

We are interested to hear your input on whether you consider a form of gambling and it's negative and/or positive effects. Have you had anyone that you have known personally that has been affected.
